So we've had the cabinet and drawer safety latches installed for a while now. Today I just installed the toilet safety latch too since he's discovered he can open and close the lid. And while I keep things clean here, I still don't want him messing with the toilet. YUCK! I've also been amazed at just how much he's learned to do and what things mean. He loves to shut doors for you and is getting tall enough to reach the door knobs now. Thankfully he hasn't figured out how to turn them yet but I foresee the door knob safety things in our very near future. He has also figured out how to open the lid to his toy chest and get toys out of there.
We know he understands us when we say close it please since he'll close the door for us. He loves shutting doors on anything (it's not fun when you happen to be grabbing something from inside a door though). We've also noticed he understands put it back please since he does that as well. Out please is usually what we tell him when we're about to cook in the kitchen. While he fusses he gets out of the kitchen and stands right at the edge of the carpet/kitchen floor. Go get monkey is for when he's ready for his nap or bedtime. He always goes and gets him. Sometimes he'll go pick him up and bring him to us to show us he's ready to go to sleep. Can I have it is apparently his favorite game. He loves to hand stuff to you. Just yesterday he's started putting his sippy cup on the tables he can reach to set it there. I guess he got tired of us asking him to pick it up please (meaning set it upright). He also gets leave it alone (again he gets told that alot).
While we have mastered the juice he's not willing to do it so much with milk. We've made progress though and I've read different things on different sites that some give it up more readily than others and most of the ones with problems are experiencing what we are. So apparently he associates milk with bottle and juice with sippy. Working on it by trying to get him to drink his milk out of his sippy during the day and going from there.
As far as words he says. He started saying Mama at 6 months. Then it was Dada. He said Hey next. He can say no and don't since he was getting told that a lot. Sounds like he's saying what is that too. He's trying to say monkey and it sounded like he said dog and bye bye as well. We're thinking dee is his word for all things fuzzy too. We're working on his name too since he's also grouped that he and daddy are boys. He'll point to Yancey and say daddy then point to himself and say daddy.
He loves being outside. He loves getting in his Jeep jogging stroller and seeing the sites. He loves the pool. I'm working on teaching him to kick in his float. I wonder if next year is too soon to start swimming lessons? He doesn't like sand but we are going to try again some point this year to get him used to the beach. I'm just glad to have an outdoor loving baby.
Teething this go round has been horrible. But it looks like all 4 one year molars are coming in. Plus one of the front teeth and it looks like all 4 canines are trying to come in too. You can tell this go round has been the worst as far as pain for him.
I think he's going to end up being a very helpful child just based on how he seems to enjoy helping. He's tried to drag the trash down the hall to the stairs for us to take the trash out. He likes to hand things to you to put away too. He can walk up a few steps and has started climbing things. Yay........
